Bikini electrolysis aftercare in the first 48–72 hours after a 30-minute session

A lot of our clients come to us after trying electrolysis elsewhere and noticing better results within months, and the biggest thing we want for you is to protect that progress right away. Here’s the #1 rule: keep the bikini area clean, cool, and uncovered as much as you can, and skip pools, hot tubs, sun, heavy sweating, and tight clothing for the first 48 to 72 hours. That short window is when your skin is most reactive.

Your first 0–24 hours: cool it down, keep it clean, don’t trap heat

Quick checklist: Clean hands, gentle cleanse, cool compress, light soothing layer. No friction. No heat. No sweating.

Right after your Electrolysis Bikini - 30 Mins session ($90), mild redness or a little swelling can happen. That’s normal and usually settles down shortly after. What helps most is doing less, not more.

Do this in the first day

  • Wash your hands before you touch the area.
  • Gently cleanse once or twice with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser or saline. Pat dry. No scrubbing.
  • Use a cool compress for 5 to 10 minutes at a time during the first 12 to 24 hours if you feel warm, puffy, or tender.
  • Wear loose, breathable underwear. Cotton usually feels best.

Skip these for 24 hours, and usually longer

  • Hot baths, hot showers aimed at the area, saunas, or steam rooms.
  • Workouts that make you sweat heavily.
  • Tight leggings, shapewear, or tight swim bottoms that rub.

The 24–72 hour window: the “no pools, no heat, no friction” rule

This is the stretch where most people accidentally irritate their skin. In Encino, warm and dry summer days can push sweating up fast, and sweat plus friction is usually what makes redness linger. Keep it simple and you’ll usually heal cleaner.

Avoid for 48–72 hours

  • Swimming pools, hot tubs, and ocean swims
  • Sunbathing and tanning
  • Intense workouts and heavy sweating
  • Waxing or plucking

Keep doing

  • Gentle cleansing and patting dry
  • Light soothing gel if you feel dry or tight
  • Loose clothing that doesn’t rub
  • Letting the area breathe at home

If you’re a parent or commuting all over Encino and Sherman Oaks, this is when the 30-minute visit really pays off. We want your aftercare to be just as quick. If you can, book mid-morning or late-afternoon around the Magnolia Boulevard corridor so you’re not stepping into peak heat right after your session.

Days 3–7: scabs, shaving, and keeping your progress on track

A tiny scab or two can happen with electrolysis, especially in a sensitive area like the bikini line. Some people used to get scabs routinely elsewhere and then notice a smoother, calmer recovery once they’re in consistent care. If you see a scab, treat it like a “hands off” sign.

If you get scabs, do this

  • Don’t pick, scratch, or exfoliate. Let them fall off on their own.
  • Keep cleansing gently. Pat dry. A thin layer of a simple barrier ointment can help if the area feels raw.
  • Keep friction low. Tight jeans and tight underwear are the usual culprits for reopening irritation.

When is shaving okay?

If you need to shave, wait until the skin looks calm again. That usually means redness is gone and there are no scabs. For many people that’s around 48 to 72 hours, but if you’re still tender, give it a few more days. And please skip waxing or plucking between sessions. Electrolysis works hair-by-hair, so we need the hair present to treat it.

Small reminder: Hair grows in cycles. If you notice some hairs come back, that doesn’t mean your session “didn’t work.” It usually means those follicles weren’t in the treatable stage yet.

Post electrolysis care products that won’t stir up the bikini area

Think boring and fragrance-free. The bikini area gets irritated when products are too active, too scented, or too occlusive while you’re still warm and healing.

Safe basics we generally recommend

  • A mild, fragrance-free cleanser (or saline) for gentle cleansing.
  • Sterile gauze or a clean, soft cloth for cool compresses.
  • Aloe vera gel or a simple soothing gel, applied lightly.
  • A thin barrier ointment if you’re dry or scabbing. Use a very small amount.

Hold off on active skincare in the area for the first few days, things like acids, retinoids, and strong exfoliants. And skip heavily fragranced body lotions right after your session. If you’re unsure about a product you already own, bring it up at your next visit and we’ll tell you if it’s a “not right now” item.

When to reach out to us (and when it’s just normal healing)

Most people do great with a simple routine. We also take sensitive skin areas seriously, especially the bikini zone, and we’d rather you ask than worry at home.

Usually normal

  • Mild redness or swelling shortly after your session
  • Tenderness that fades over the next day or two
  • A few tiny scabs that heal on their own

Reach out promptly

  • Increasing pain instead of improving
  • Spreading redness, heat, or swelling
  • Yellow drainage, fever, or anything that looks like infection

Our Encino clients, plus people driving in from Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Toluca Lake, Van Nuys, and North Hollywood, often ask the same two questions: “Can I hit my gym?” and “Can I get in the pool?” If you’re not sure, tell us what you have planned and we’ll give you a clear yes or no based on how your skin is looking that week.
