Electrolysis bikini aftercare: 48-hour do’s & don’ts (15 minutes)
By Electrolysis By Nar | July 22, 2026
Encino, CA | Bikini electrolysis session: 15 minutes, $60

A lot of our regulars tell us they’ve gotten better results in a few months with Nar than years elsewhere, and aftercare is a big reason those results stay clean. Here’s the single most important rule: keep the bikini area calm for 48 hours. Gently cleanse with mild soap and cool water, use a cold compress if you feel heat or swelling, and avoid heat, heavy sweating, soaking, and sun. And please don’t pick, exfoliate, or “help” the follicles along.
Your first 24 to 48 hours after bikini electrolysis (the rules that matter)
Our Electrolysis Bikini - 15 Mins appointment is short on purpose. It’s perfect for maintaining a neat bikini line or touching up a small zone with sensitive skin. Right after, it’s normal to see a little redness or mild swelling. Most people settle quickly when they follow the basics.
48-hour non-negotiables: No soaking (pools, hot tubs, baths). No direct sun on the treated skin. Keep things clean, dry, and low-friction.
Do this the day of your appointment
- Cleanse gently with cool to lukewarm water and a mild, non-fragranced soap.
- Pat dry. Don’t rub. A clean paper towel is often better than a shared bath towel.
- If you feel warmth or puffiness, use a cold compress for 5 to 10 minutes at a time.
- Wear breathable underwear and looser bottoms so the area isn’t getting rubbed all evening.
Avoid these common irritants
- Hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and heating pads.
- Spinning, running, heavy lifting, or anything that has you sweating or creating friction for 24 to 48 hours.
- Sexual activity for the first 24 to 48 hours, since friction and bacteria are what we’re trying to avoid.
- Body sprays, fragrance oils, scented wipes, and exfoliating acids on the bikini area.
Encino summers are no joke. On those warm July afternoons along the Encino, Magnolia Boulevard corridor near the Sherman Oaks border, sweating and sun sneak up fast. If you can, keep the treated skin covered and stay in the shade during that first 48-hour window.
Days 3 to 7: keep progress, avoid the stuff that causes bumps
Once the first 48 hours pass, most people feel back to normal. That doesn’t mean your follicles are ready for everything. The goal this week is simple: let the skin heal cleanly so you keep building the permanent results you’re here for.
Big week-one rule: Don’t pick. If you get tiny scabs, let them fall off on their own. Picking is the fastest way to create prolonged redness.
What to avoid for at least 5 to 7 days
- Exfoliating gloves, scrubs, retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, or anything “polishing” on the treated bikini skin.
- Waxing or plucking. Those methods pull the hair from the root and work against what we’re doing with electrolysis.
- Laser on the treated follicles. Stick to electrolysis for permanent removal.
What you can keep doing
Keep cleansing gently once or twice daily and keep friction low. If you’re back in leggings or tighter underwear, pay attention. If you notice extra tenderness or tiny bumps, back off the friction for a day. It’s a small adjustment that protects your results.
A theme we hear all the time is that Nar’s work feels efficient and the skin tends to calm down nicely after. One client put it perfectly: minimal redness, swelling, or irritation when they stick with the simple rules above.
The “keep it simple” product routine for post electrolysis care in the bikini area
You don’t need a shelf of products. In fact, too many products is usually what stirs up irritation. Here’s what we generally recommend for bikini electrolysis aftercare.
Soothing layer
A fragrance-free soothing gel (aloe-based is fine) in a thin layer. If you’re not sure what to use, let us know what you have at home and we’ll tell you if it’s a good idea for freshly treated skin.
Clean, dry habits
Hands off the area unless you’ve washed your hands first. Change into clean underwear after workouts once you’re back to exercising. And skip scented wipes. They’re convenient, but they’re a common trigger.
Sun note for Encino: We prefer you avoid direct sun for 24 to 48 hours. If the skin is fully settled after that, you can use sunscreen on surrounding exposed areas, but don’t put sunscreen onto irritated skin that still feels hot or tender.
Normal vs not normal: when to reach out to our Encino team
A little redness and mild swelling can happen with electrolysis, especially in a sensitive area like the bikini line. That typically calms down shortly after treatment. What we don’t want is something getting worse as the hours pass.
Usually normal
- Pinkness or mild swelling that fades over the day
- Tenderness that feels like mild soreness
- Tiny pinpoint scabs that heal on their own
Reach out to us
- Increasing pain, spreading redness, or warmth that keeps building
- Pus, fever, or anything that looks like infection
- A reaction you can’t calm down by removing products and sticking to gentle cleansing
“My skin was smooth, irritation-free, and the hair started to thin out more and more.”
