One thing we hear a lot is that people see better results in a few months with us than they did after years elsewhere, and aftercare is a big part of protecting that progress. The most important rule after your 45-minute electrolysis session is simple: keep the treated skin calm and clean, and don’t add heat or friction. Expect mild redness and sometimes tiny pinpoint scabs. Cool the area, cleanse gently, and avoid sweating, sun, and makeup for the first 24 to 48 hours, especially in Encino heat.
Your first 24 to 48 hours after electrolysis: the do’s that cut down redness
A 45-minute appointment is great when we’re treating a larger area or knocking out multiple zones in one visit. It also means you’ve got more follicles that were just treated, so the next day matters.
Quick checklist: cool compress, gentle cleanse, hands off. Skip heat, sweat, sun, swimming, and makeup for 24 to 48 hours.
Right after you leave (first hour)
- Use a cool compress in short bursts if you feel warm or puffy. Don’t ice directly on skin. Wrap it.
- Cleanse only with cool to lukewarm water and a very gentle cleanser. Pat dry. No scrubbing.
- Don’t touch, rub, or check the area in a mirror every five minutes. That’s how irritation starts.
For the rest of day one and day two
- No heavy workouts, hot yoga, saunas, or long hot showers. Sweat and heat can keep redness hanging around longer.
- Avoid direct sun. In Encino, that midday sun is no joke, and treated follicles don’t love it.
- Skip swimming (pool, ocean, hot tub). Chlorine and bacteria are a bad mix for freshly treated skin.
- If we treated your face, hold off on makeup for at least 24 hours, and longer if you’re still red or bumpy.
If you’re coming in from the Encino, Sherman Oaks, or Studio City side and you’ve got errands after, toss a small cool-pack in your bag. And if you can, late-afternoon appointments help you avoid stepping back into peak heat right after treatment.
Days 3 to 7: how we keep pinpoint scabs small (and hands off)
It’s normal to see tiny pinpoint scabs after electrolysis. They’re basically your skin sealing up those treated follicles. The goal this week is simple: let them fall off on their own. Picking can lead to prolonged redness and dark marks, especially on the face.
We’ve had plenty of people come to us after other places left them irritated, and they’re relieved when their skin starts healing “beautifully afterward with minimal redness, swelling, or irritation.” Your part is keeping things low-key for a few more days.
Big rule: Don’t shave, wax, or tweeze the treated area between sessions. Let us know what you normally do, and we’ll tell you when it’s safe to resume anything.
- Avoid retinoids, acids, and exfoliating tools for 3 to 7 days. If you’re not sure what counts as an “active, ” ask us.
- Keep showers warm, not hot. Shorter is better if you’re still feeling tender.
- If you’re outdoors a lot, keep the area covered when you can. Sun plus irritation tends to equal slower healing.
Products that play nice after hair removal services (and what to pause)
You don’t need a complicated shelf. You need a calm routine that doesn’t sting. For most people, this is plenty:
Our simple post-electrolysis lineup
- Gentle cleanser: fragrance-free is a safe bet.
- Light moisturizer: again, keep it simple. No strong scents.
- Aloe gel can be soothing if your skin likes it.
- Sunscreen once irritation has settled: this is key in Encino and along the Magnolia Boulevard corridor near the Sherman Oaks border.
Put these on pause for a few days: retinoids, scrubs, exfoliating acids, strong acne spot treatments, and anything that makes your skin tingle even on a normal day. If you’re treating multiple zones after a 45-minute session, keep the whole routine gentle. Your skin will thank you.
When to reach out to us in Encino (normal healing vs a problem)
Mild redness, a little swelling, tenderness, and pinpoint scabbing can be normal after electrolysis. Many of our clients tell us the comfort difference is “night and day, ” but your skin is still doing real work for a couple days.
“her insertions are so precise and quick that i often can't even tell when a hair has been removed, and my skin has been healing beautifully afterward with minimal redness, swelling, or irritation.”
one of our regulars
Reach out to us if you notice increasing pain, redness that’s spreading instead of settling, heat that feels raised and warm, or any drainage that looks like pus. If something feels off, don’t wait it out. Message us so we can guide you, and if it sounds medical, we’ll tell you to get checked by a medical professional.
And if you’re squeezing this into a busy schedule, we get it. We’re convenient for Encino, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Toluca Lake, Van Nuys, and North Hollywood clients who want clear instructions so they can get back to work, school pickup, and normal life with minimal irritation.
Keep your momentum between sessions (especially for chin and facial hair)
Electrolysis works on hair growth cycles. That’s why you might see a few hairs pop back up after a session, especially on areas like the chin and neck. That doesn’t mean it “didn’t work.” It means those hairs weren’t ready yet.
If you want a bigger push in one visit, our Electrolysis - 45 Mins session is designed to clear more in one appointment. It’s $95 for 45 minutes, and it’s a solid choice when we’re covering multiple zones or working a larger area without rushing.
